For the 4th year running, student artists in The Dandenong Ranges and outer East of Melbourne have had the opportunity to have their work recognised and exhibited through The Streeton Student Art Awards. Students are able to enter artworks of any medium and may enter as many times as they wish.
On Friday 26th May, Elizabeth Lynch from Upwey Secondary School came to the Ferny Creek Primary School assembly to acknowledge and present awards to 4 of our talented students.
We’d like to extend a huge congratulations to Eliza and Evie in the junior school and Ashley and Lily in the upper school whose works were all highly commended. Evie’s work ‘Butterfly Wishes’ indeed was the winning artwork in the Lower Primary Category!
We are all very proud of the initiative shown by these students to take part in these awards and are thrilled that their amazing artworks have been recognised. Well done everyone!

Thank-you to our wonderful school community for supporting our Open Night last night. There was a happy buzz in the school as families participated in our ‘Learning Walk Challenge’; hunting for clues and answers related to student learning this term. It was a delight to see our students taking such pride in their achievements and confidently engaging with the wider community.
A lot has been happening on our netball/playground area this term. Thanks to a Better Schools Grant from James Merlino our school will soon have a state of the art undercover play area. This is something we have always needed, as in the wet weather, through terms 3 and 4 especially, the children are kept inside. The covered area also comes with new basketball and netball rings, new lines, lighting and power!
In a couple of weeks we are holding the first of our Parent teacher conferences for 2018. We have selected two evenings, Tuesday 29th May and Wednesday 29th May. Since 2015 some of our meeting have included the student in the feedback time. We are continuing, 2018, to run them as follows:
Foundation: Parent and teacher only
Years 1 and 2: Students complete self assessment and students are given the option of attending
Years 3 and 4: Students complete self assessment and are strongly encouraged to include student.
Years 5 and 6: Students must attend as a key to transitioning to secondary where three way conferences are most common practice.
Remember that we do understand that one model does not fit all. It may not be suitable for all students above Year 1 attend. But also remember that the conferences are to discuss your child’s progress thus far in 2018. Any other topics of discussion should be done by making an alternative appointment.
Letter of information will be sent home next week.
Including how to book in
What the self assessment is all about
Booking will be by sheets in foyer or emailing or calling the school from Friday 18th May
Open for Business – all week! Instead of the ‘traditional’ open morning or afternoon we are opening the doors all week. Come and watch your children in class, in PE, Science, Art, etc! Remember though, it’s a ‘normal’ week and the children will be doing what they normally do.
You are invited to our Open night on Wednesday 23rd May between 6:30 and 8:00pm. Visit all classrooms and look at the work the children have been doing this semester. When you visit each classroom answer a simple Curriculum question about the work on display. Once completed, place your entry in the box in the foyer to have a chance to win our Curriculum Hamper. Some children will be performing throughout the night and the choir will perform at 7:40 in the multi-purpose room to conclude the evening.
Tours for new visitors to our school will be conducted again by our senior students on the night. They did a fabulous job last year!
What a fantastic day we all had at the School Picnic at Ferny Creek Reserve. This is the final event of our Valued Start Program where we focus on our school mantra ‘Together We Make A Difference, and our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. We also spent a lot of time getting used to the routine sand rigour of 2017.
At this month’s School Council four new policies were endorsed. They are Lateness to School Class Formation, Visitors, and eSafety (Cybersmart). These can now be found in the policy section of our website.
What a day! Our countries arrived at the airport and went through the pre-flight checks. Our flight was delayed for 5 minutes while waiting for a late passenger. Pre-flight checks were completed with our stewards demonstrating flight safety. We eventually took off from Ferny Creek Multi-Purpose Room Airport early Thursday morning. Throughout the remainder of the day many flights continued around the world with stop offs at Mexico, Brazil, Madagascar, Great Britain, China, New Zealand, Greece, France and Italy. Passengers used their passports in all these countries to gather various facts to take back to their home country! We all landed back at Ferny Creek MPR Airport at about 2.45pm, just in time to close the Ferny Creek Olympic Games! What a day!!
